Although the title of his latest effort – The Guitar Song- refers to one song Jamey Johnson’s “The Guitar Song” is far more ambitious. In this new age of need it now instant play bite sized media Johnson tackles an expansive double concept album in the uptight world of country music. It’s just what the doctor ordered.
Jamey Johnson is already the hottest thing on iTunes.
Country music and it’s new – younger – army of fans have been yearning for a more real experience compared to the processed pop of Rascal Flatts and Taylor Swift.
The Guitar Song showcases Jamey Johnson’s deep songwriting along with his distinctive delivery in two deliberately separate albums. A black album (darker stuff) and a white album (lighter stuff… but still kinda dark).
The two disks cover a wild ride through L.A. to Lower Alabama, over to a southern fried Macon and a visit to his lonely daughter’s heart. A few are reminiscent of Willie and Waylon (Willie on Even the Skies are Blue). He also stops to cover a few all time greats like Set em Up Joe and For The Good Times (Kristofferson).
Many are already calling the set a masterpiece. There’s nothing quite like The Guitar Song on the music landscape and there likely never will be again. Get it before it drifts away.
