Meet Chris Janson Live on Freemont Street

Posted on 18 April 2013 by Bill West

Chris JansonChris Janson is a new singer songwriter on Bigger Picture Records and he performs a rowdy and unpredictable live show.  His new country radio single is called “Better I Don’t” and he plays a mean harmonica too.

We caught up with Janson backstage just before his crowded Freemont Street Experience show in LasVegas for ACM week.

Watch (rate/comment/subscribe) to see his thoughts on performing live and his killer band.    He never performs the same show twice and you can see the rowdy results at this live concert.

Twangz is our weekly video show featuring the brightest acts in country music.   See more HERE at TwangzTV on YouTube.

American Country Awards Recognize New Country

Posted on 11 December 2012 by Bill West

AMAsVegas was alive for the 2012 American Country Awards and the usual take on awards for the biggest country stars was turned on it’s ear.

New country music star Luke Bryan put on usual backwards cap  performance and walked away with the most awards in the form of the blue Fender Telecaster trophy.   In fact the backwards cap (trucker or otherwise) looked like a theme for the night with Luke, Lee Brice, Kip Moore and others making the same fashion statement.

Big surprises came in the New Artist category with the award going to the lovable Lauren Alaina over the expected Hunter Hayes and the odd Breakthrough Artist guitar going to a deserving Jake Owen. Some categories seemed a bit forced like the single for new artist award and group/collaboration mash ups.

Still the ceremony lacked the broad star appeal of the CMA or ACM awards with A Listers Taylor Swift, Chesney, McGraw, Eric Church and Blake Shelton all absent.  What remained was a who’s who of artists just breaking through and on the rise.  One wonders what the FOX producers thought of Miranda’s shout out to her husband saying she was TIVOing the Voice.

Indeed, Luke Bryan had a great year and scored deserved recoginiton in at least seven awards.  The most of all the new country song artists.

2012 American Country Award Winners:

ACM 2011 Winners – Taylor Gets Entertainer Award

Posted on 03 April 2011 by editor

A big suprise for Taylor Swift who has just returned from an overseas Taylor tour to come home to her first Entertainer of the Year Win (Swift has won the 2009 CMA’s version of the trophy).

The award marks another year of new faces in different categories with some suprise appearancesfrom Miranda Lambert.

It could have been anyone’s game in the Male Vocalist category but a satisfying Brad Paisley took home the trophy.  No Chesney or Strait even inthe audience this year (not suprising since Chesney’s outspoken criticism of the fan voting mechanic in the past).

An awards TV appearance could be Ford’s breakthrough moment, “I never dreamed I would get a nomination for anything,” said Ford in response to the news.  “I just wanted to make a good song with my friend Jamey.  I am so humbled to even be mentioned with the amazing artists in this category.  I promise no one is more grateful than me!”

Lee Brice scored a surprising three nominations in conjuction with his record breaking single “Love Like Crazy.”

“Wow!  What a way to start the day!  I’m out on the west coast deep in dreamland and my hotel phone starts ringing at 5:30am and it’s my manager screaming ‘Wake Up! We got 3 ACM Nominations!’ I grinned from ear to ear,” Brice explains about hearing the good news, “It’s such an honor just to be nominated and such a boost personally after putting so much time and work into this.”

Country Awards Go Fox

Posted on 03 August 2010 by editor

There was already a clear over-saturation of music awards shows so you can imagine the eye rolls as another country awards was announced. You’d think this site would be excited for this development – but country has the CMA (biggie) and the ACMs plus the CMT’s on top of being included in country categories in all the others AMAs and Grammys. First thought is overkill but we’ll see.

ACAs on Fox

The new show just announced to be on Fox will will be a fan-voted country music awards show called the American Country Awards. The new show will air Dec. 6 live from Las Vegas. The two-hour telecast is being executive produced by Bob Bain, who handles Fox’s hit Teen Choice Awards.

Paul Flattery and Tisha Fein will serve as producers; Fletcher Foster is co-producer; and Greg Sills serves as supervising producer.

Categories will include Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Touring Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Music Video by a Breakthrough Artist, among others.

Including the new show on Fox, their will be four major televised country music awards ceremonies. Fans also vote for the CMT Music Awards; and the ACM Awards (CBS) have added more fan-voted categories in recent years. The CMA Awards air on ABC.

Lady A Leads The Way – 2010 ACM Nominees

Posted on 04 March 2010 by editor

Haywood, Scott and Kelley

Lady Antebellum. Already hot is now even hotter…up for the most: seven Academy of Country Music Awards!

Miranda Lambert and Carrie Underwood are next with six nominations, Taylor Swift has 5 and Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley got four in the announcements this week.

The Zac Brown Band and its frontman accepted four nominations and Brown added two individually.

Lady A snagged 5 nominations for the gravity-defying hit “Need You Now,” including individual record, song and video of the year, and is up for top Vocal Group and Album for its debut, “Lady Antebellum.”

Underwood, Chesney, Swift, Paisley, the Zac Brown Band, George Strait, Keith Urban and Toby Keith are nominated for Entertainer of the Year , the biggie given out at the April 18 awards in Las Vegas.

Underwood won EOTY last year and will be the only woman to get it twice in a row if she gets it this year. Ahhh…. but there’s another blonde in the mix that won the CMA back in November that may be a challenger especially since the Entertainer award is Fan voted. No one is bettter with the Fans than Taylor Swift.
The voted award is anyone’s game really as a smart fan club with some internet knowledge could “game” the system and No one would know because the Academy wants the web traffic.

It’s a point Chesney noted last year before he lost the crown.
