Shania Opens Up in Birthday Video

Posted on 28 August 2009 by Bill West

Poised for a Comeback?

Poised for a Comeback?

Shania Twain celebrated her birthday by giving her fans a “gift” of a video montage on her website Today…  Get a look at what she had to say and make sure you click through to see the home grown video from her and her new beau “Fred.”

See Shania globetrotting!  Horseback riding at the Pyramids! Skydiving too!  Sheesh… What a life!

Here’s what she wrote on her official Website:

Hello everyone,

Thought I would drop a line to catch you up on things in my life and what better time than on my birthday.

I feel very much alive and well, ready to take on the gift of another year. I’ve been on a few interesting trips, reading some helpful and motivating books, meeting fascinating people and getting the most out of life that I possibly can. Living, loving, laughing and dreaming have become highest on my list of priorities. I’m looking for places to be and things to do that inspire me to write and be creative, concentrating on moving on and forward.

When I wake up each day I remind myself how lucky I am to have all the beautiful things I do in my life and allow that gratitude to fuel me for the day, taking one day at a time. I try not to worry about tomorrow since I realize I can’t control what it will bring or whether tomorrow will even come. So, I focus on today and treat every minute with the respect it deserves and not take it for granted. I steer my energies toward being productive and finding motivation from every person, place and thing I encounter.

Traveling has helped a great deal. I consider myself on a journey of discovery and recovery. I don’t accept to be held down by the past, nor do I expect too much of the future. This allows me to dream freely with no strings attached.

I recently read something very encouraging to someone like myself, who lives and loves to dream: “PLANS HAVE TO BE REALISTIC, DREAMS DON’T.” Of course, I love this notion and allow myself to dream positive things and plan to live them out.

I make a point of surrounding myself with fun, positive, compassionate, loving people. Loved ones I can trust. After all, good company brings good feelings and feeling good just makes life more pleasant. The love and understanding of my friends and family have pulled me through the recent difficult time. It’s as if several hands grabbed me by the scruff of the neck during my lowest moment and promised not to let go till I was safe. They kept their promise, and I want to thank them, my lifesavers.

So, thank you my dear friends and family. Thank you to the fans as well for your words of comfort and encouragement.

All this has given me enormous strength.

A dear friend and true gentleman by the name of Fred, has been the most constant companion of support for both Eja and me, and having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time under the same extreme circumstances, he understood me better than anyone. We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We’ve become stronger and closer through it all, as have our children Eja and Johanna (Fred’s 8 year old daughter).

“The kids” came along on several of the trips you’ll see in the montage. My mother often called me her little Gypsy so it’s no surprise that travel is working for me in finding inspiration through seeing new and fascinating things. I’m putting that inspiration in to writing and more dreaming.

The best part about my dreams lately, is that not only am I allowing myself to dream, I set those dreams into action and live them out.

Fred filmed and snapped away during the travel adventures of the last six months, capturing the dreams becoming reality. The home footage is full of happy faces, beautiful, interesting places and lots of horses. Yeah!

When I reflect on it all, it’s clear how remarkably active my life has been since last December – a time in the life of someone working hard to “move on” and succeeding. Life has been gracious to me and the images show that very clearly.

Why I decided to share this personal side of my life with you at this point is to answer the questions I get asked so often lately: “how are you, where have you been and what have you been doing?”

A big part of the answer is in the montage. I’m “okay” – yes, I hit a very big bump in the road, but Eja and I are doing well and with all the concern you, my fans, have shown over this difficult period, I want you to see for yourself that we are doing fine, by sharing these personal images with you. Sorry about the poor quality of the footage but almost all of what you will see, both photos and video, were shot on Fred’s cell phone with the exception of the skydive filmed from a tiny, wrist camera worn by the guide. Although the images weren’t originally filmed with the intention of sharing them publicly, in the end I decided it was more fun to share them. We weren’t paying attention to quality, all of it being done on the fly, so I’ve included text in various places to help explain and make things easier to follow. Once again, it’s all very candid footage so be ready to see a lot of me without makeup, no touch ups, some bad hair and looking pretty goofy. There is no glamour but plenty of genuine smiles.

Fred and I have certainly had a lot of laughs through the months and while sharing these images with a good friend of mine after each trip, she now affectionately refers to us as, “Lucy and Ricky Ricardo”.

Hope you enjoy!

Love,
Shania

Now the big question is will she decide to make some new music?   Clearly she’s writing… now HERE’s that video.

Come back and post a comment with your thoughts below.

Kenny Chesney’s No Shoes Clothing Line

Posted on 18 August 2009 by Bill West

Kenny Chesney

Kenny Chesney

Las Vegas: As his Sun City Carnival continues doing definitive business in a tough economic climate – including playing for in excess of 60,000 at Boston’s Gillette Stadium this weekend – and the high energy singer/songwriter just scored his 19th #1 with “Out Last Night” from his Greatest Hits II, the music and mindset of Kenny Chesney continues inspiring people in ways that extend beyond the obvious. Given Chesney’s low-key, low-impact life, it was only a matter of time before someone approached the laidback musician about clothes that reflected his deeply casual sense of style.

“We’ve had people approach us in the past,” admits the man who rocks hard and kicks back hard, “but it never seemed like something I’d wear… and when these folks called, I wasn’t sure. But the people from [what became] Blue Chair Bay got the things that are important to me: quality materials that don’t try, timeless vintage stuff that isn’t right now, but forever… and colors that look like they’ve been baked by the sun and sea water… and clothes you can live in. And they let me be involved with the design, so these clothes aren’t someone who doesn’t know me …”

Blue Chair Bay is not a signature line, but inspired by the man and his music, which reflects ocean living, time spent with friends and relaxing wherever you are. With woven shirts, khakis, shorts, t’s and jeans, the men’s and women’s lines have soft launched in very select retailers including Fast Buck Freddy’s in Key West, Ocean Eddies in Gulf Coast, Al and Levys in Nashville – and will have their official debut at the MAGIC Marketplace in Las Vegas, hands down the largest clothing event in America, Sept. 1 with a very intimate performance at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.

“The idea – to me – is what would you need if you were going to take off for a week in the islands or at the beach… or even just on the road,” explains the man who’s made vintage t’s, baggy khakis and ball caps a uniform for young people coming into your own across the nation. “These are the things you wear when you’re just being yourself, unplugging with nothing to prove. To me, when you’ve got nowhere to go, nowhere to be – and you want to be comfortable, but still look good.”

Well over two years in the works with the American design team, Blue Chair Bay captures the attitude and ease of the 4-consecutive Academy of Country Music and 4-time and reigning Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year onstage – and off. With an emphasis on all-natural fabrics and places that evoke real people and places in Chesney’s world, the comprehensive men’s and women’s lines will be displayed at the MAGIC Marketplace inside Las Vegas Convention Center in its own tour bus, a first for the international trade show that is easily the biggest in the world.

“Just like I don’t know fashion,” explains the largest North American ticket-seller this century, “I don’t expect these people to really know who I am, what I do or what I’d like to think my music represents… So, that’s why I’m going to play a very intimate show for a lot of them: bring them in organically to the songs, the stories and give them a sense of who I – and the people who live these songs right along with us – am. To me, when I look out at the crowd every night onstage, I know this is going to make shopping easier… not because it’s me, but because these are clothes I know I have to hunt to find, and now, it’s everything that feels good, wears easy and looks right in one place.”

NASHVILLE, TN – Lyric Street Recording Artist Bucky Covington is in Los Angeles today to tape an episode of FOX TV’s “Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader” for charity.  Bucky will be taking the challenge for The Arthritis Foundation, a non-profit which supports more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions and helps people take control of arthritis by providing public health education; pursuing public policy and legislation; and conducting evidence-based programs to improve the quality of life for those living with arthritis.

“I’ve been brushing up on my grade school skills to at least outsmart all of the 4th graders … just in case it turns out I’m NOT smarter than a 5th grader,” said Bucky.  “But, if I bring Jeff Foxworthy an apple maybe I’ll get a few extra points,” he laughed.

Recently, Bucky Covington delivered to radio his brand new single “I Want My Life Back.”  Currently climbing the country charts, this song is the lead single from his much anticipated sophomore album to be released this fall.

Bucky Covington’s self-titled debut CD opened at #1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart in April 2007 with the biggest first week sales for any debut country artist that year. He’s the best selling debut artist of the 2007 class and is one of only three male country artists since 2005 to have three consecutive top 10 singles from his debut album.  In addition to competing on the fifth season of “American Idol,” Bucky’s national television appearances have included Live with Regis and Kelly, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America and Fox & Friends.

Pickler Breaks Attendance Record

Posted on 11 August 2009 by Bill West

Kellie Pickler Fights The Crowd

Kellie Pickler Fights The Crowd

ALBERT LEA, MN – As they say, records are meant to be broken, even if they take decades. With rain looming, officials with the Freeborn County Fair decided to move singer-songwriter Kellie Pickler’s show up an hour to ensure the performance and even with that last minute move, Pickler still had more fans than the venue would hold.

In fact, the gates to the grandstand had to be closed 15 minutes prior to her set due to the SRO crowd. Bill Magann with Variety Attractions said, “Kellie Pickler had a capacity crowd at Albert Lea, MN last night. Largest in my 34 years here!” In the fairs 126 years of existence, Pickler’s show had the highest grossing box office receipts in its history.

The Tribune, the daily newspaper noted, “As Pickler talked to the crowd in between songs, it was almost as if this real-life small-town girl from Albemarle, N.C., had lived in Albert Lea her whole life as she effortlessly went from telling you about each song to walking unguarded into an area where you can tell she feels the most comfortable and confident — with her fans, who exploded with delight. It is this characteristic that I think explains the reason that her star will continue to rise as both men and women are drawn to her confidence, charm and inner strength.”

Pickler opened the show with her Top 10 and gold certified single, “Best Days Of Your Life.”  90 minutes later with rain falling, she closed the show with “Red High Heels” and invited every young girl in the audience to join her onstage, passing the microphone around for the girls to sing with her. By the time the song ended, the stage was packed with fans singing in unison.

The fun moves onto Wausau, WI on Friday, then Saturday she’ll perform at WE Fest in Detroit Lakes, MN before wrapping up the weekend with Taylor Swift as the Fearless Tour invades Omaha, NE.
